2025 Clean Sweep Grant Applications Available!

Apply now for Clean Sweep grants for the collection and disposal of agricultural pesticides, farm chemicals, household hazardous waste, or unwanted prescription drugs.

Completed grant applications are due by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, May 24. Submit applications through the online SharePoint site, by email, or through USPS mail (as long as posted marked by the application due date.)​

New Change to the allocation method:

Starting in 2023, the allocation will follow a slightly modified process to what had been used previously. 
Previously, the final score on applications played a very minor role in the allocation process. On average, it affected final allocation amounts by 1% or less. This new method, however, will hold these scores to a higher standard, affecting the final allocated amount by an average of 10%. Those whose applications score above the median will receive an increase in funding (by about 10%) while those whose scores are below the median score will see a decrease in funding (by about 10%). In order to ensure your application receives the highest score possible, make sure to review the scoring rubric provided with the rest of the application documents.​

New for 2025: The new grant maximums for the 2025 Clean Sweep program have been changed from previous years maximums. Beginning in 2025, the Household Hazardous Waste program will be allocated $775,000, Agriculture is allocated $175,000, and the Unwanted Prescription Drug collection is allocated $50,000. Additionally, the requests maximums for single municipalities in the Household Hazardous Waste program have increased and are as follows:

Online Grant Application

This is the preferred method of applying for the Clean Sweep grant. To submit an online application through the Clean Sweep SharePoint site, you must set up an account through the Wisconsin Logon Management System (WILMS) or use an existing WILMS account.

Past SharePoint Users

If you submitted a 2023 grant using the SharePoint site, you will enter your username and password that you created last year (there is an option to retrieve a forgotten username or password.)

  1. Print out the attached Wisconsin SharePoint Guidance for detailed instructions. What follows are partial instructions.
  2. Go to https://datcpnet.wi.gov/darm/AgChem/AgrichemProg/Pesticides/CleanSweep.
  3. Enter your username and password.
  4. If you have forgotten your username or password, click the proper link on the right under the Help Menu.
  5. Once in the SharePoint site, you can view your application from 2019. You can also access paper copies of the applications. 

First Time SharePoint Users

  1. Print out the Wisconsin SharePoint Guidance document for detailed instructions. What follows are partial instructions.
  2. Find the WILMS procedure in the SharePoint guidance document beginning on page 5. Be sure to write down your WILMS log-in and password when you reach that point.
  3. Go to https://datcpnet.wi.gov/darm/AgChem/AgrichemProg/Pesticides/CleanSweep.
  4. Once you receive access to the Clean Sweep SharePoint site, you will find the online applications and supporting documentation as well as paper copies of the applications. You can complete portions of your application, save it, and return later. Then when you are ready to submit the application, you will be able to save and print a copy for your records. You will also be able to attach files to your application if needed.
If you plan to submit an agricultural waste/household hazardous waste grant and an unwanted prescription drug grant, you only need one WILMS account.

The Wisconsin Clean Sweep is a grant program available to governmental entities and Tribes throughout Wisconsin that provides reimbursement to these entities for the collection and disposal of household hazardous waste, agriculture pesticides, and prescription drugs. Businesses that generate very small quantities of hazardous waste may also have the opportunity to use these collections. Collections may be one-day events or may be year-round sites-this all varies from entity to entity.

The Clean Sweep program started out as the Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection's (DATCP) way to collect and dispose of Agriculture hazardous waste. In 2003, state legislature merged the DNR's existing Household Hazardous waste program with DATCP's agriculture hazardous waste program under the jurisdiction of DATCP. The Clean Sweep's reach was extended to unwanted prescription drugs in 2007.

As of today, the Clean Sweep has collected over 4 million pounds of agriculture waste, over 39 million pounds of household hazardous waste, and over 500,000 pounds of unwanted prescription drugs.
